Site Structure

The Daisy Marc Jacobs site has clear organizational structure. The navigational links within this site tell you exactly where you will be taken within the site. According to Horton and Lynch, “Headers provide site identity and global navigation, with search and perhaps other tools” (Page Structure, Site Design). The Daisy Marc Jacobs heading of each page within the site makes it easy to navigate back to the homepage

Web Style Guide states, “sites that incorporate web applications, blog or wiki formats, or complex forms may need a simplified template variation that strips away some of the usual site navigation elements” (Page Structure, Page Templates). The Daisy Marc Jacobs site uses a stripped down version of a page template to incorporate the large graphics and complex web applications within the site. The page design throughout the site is very clean and easy to use. The sites web pages are not dense. The home page design offers the sites full range of options on the first screen.

The site does use Alternate front doors. When users type in the sites web address they are directed to an alternate “front door”.  This page asks them to choose a location before they are directed to the main web site. Users are still clear of their destination by the product name being given on the page.  According to Horton and Lynch, “These alternate entry points must bear a clear graphic and topical relation to the marketing graphics, featured product, or communications theme, but because they also function as alternate home pages, they should orient visitors to the larger site navigation as well” (Page Structure, Page Templates).
