Analysis of Designmyroom.com
Designmyroom.com is a free training based website that permits users to be interactive. Designmyroom is a finalist in the SXSW 2008 festival in the business category. The web site is a great example of Manovich's sixth principle, The Myth of Interactivity. The principle states, new media is interactive. In contrast to old media where the order of presentation is fixed, the user can now interact with a new media object (55). Designmyroom is an excellent source for innovation and creativity.
I will analyze designmyroom based on Hillman Curtis Making the Invisible Visible, Horton Lynch Web Style Guide and Manovich The Language of Media. My analysis will focus on the site's theme, page design and graphics. Designmyroom's use of cool colors elicits a tranquil message to its viewers. The goal of the site is to facilitate users with professional tools that allow them to be in control of designs. Users can gain a fan-base by being members of designmyroom.
