Analysis of HL2.com Home

 

WELCOME!

 

This semester, fall 2008, in Dr. Steve Spence's CMS 3710 writing for digital media course, my classmates and I were given the assignment to select a winning or runner up web site from the SXSW.com (South By South West) music, film and interactive conference and festival awards. We were assigned the task of assessing our chosen site based on criterion from Hillman Curtis's MTIV and the Lynch and Horton Web Style Guide. The web site I have chosen is HL2.com based out of Orange County California and Seattle, Washington. The specific criterion I have chosen to assess this site are color, site design theme, audience, images, animation and graphics.

HL2.com is a 2008 SXSW (South by South West) motion graphics award winner for HL2 advertising agency. This agency specializes in integrated brand campaigns. The site is designed around creative and thoughtful animation. The colors and navigational links are kept very simple to emphasize the clever and humorous use of animated characters and sound effects. It includes three primary navigational links labeled "Process," "Discovery" and "Creative" all hovering around a black and white rendering of a human heart. Color is not seen until you hover your pointer over one of the navigational links and the heart begins pumping blue, orange or green squares. Once you click on one of the three choices, you are shown one of the three animations. "Discover" has a blue underwater theme, "Creative" has a green earth theme and "process" has an orange construction theme. Within the animations you are given several more navigational links that open a window, in which they have laid out images, videos and hyperlinks for the campaigns, projects and case studies HL2 is currently working on or has worked on previously.
