Topography Analysis of The Big Noob
The typography is effective in its use of serif, sans serif, and italic typeface. Serif font dominates the top of the page. The serif typeface invites readers to try the site. Katherine Green states, headings often feature san serif typefaces (Curtis 153). Smith, however, takes the opposite approach. Take a look at the heading below. The lower case serif typeface makes the page less intimidating. Smith reserves serif fonts for the small text in the blogs. Take a look at the typeface from the main heading in figure 4. As Green mentions, italics are often reserved for special phrases (Curtis 155). The san serif characters write the smallest text; serif font, in boldface, identifies headings; and italics identify the authors’ names.

A master cascading style sheet (CSS) controls The Big Noob page layout. The authors rely on a basic magazine layout for each page. The tabs, pages, and advertisements evolve from magazine layout principles. The basic layout is uniform and easy to follow. The page communicates the stability of CSS and hyper text markup language (HTML). See the relationship between the home page and figure 6 (archive page). The pages hold form. Style sheets are powerful tools. They allow the authors to maintain consistency (WSG, Cascading Style Sheets).
