The theme of Boostup.org
According to Curtis in Making the Invisible Visible, he stresses the importance of theme. He states that theme has power, and that they can communicate so much deeper than literal meaning (41). The theme of Boostup.org is encouragement. This site wants people to support students who a dropping out of school. The Ad Council created this website to keep students from giving up and to start believing in themselves. This is communicated through various medians on the website. The site provides students and parents with information on how to overcome these struggles.
The theme should reflect the purpose of the website. The designer must try to influence casual user to spend time in the site. According to the Web Style Guide, Site Design Themes suggest, entertainment sites usually cater to an audience whose interests and motivations are usually much less focused. The audience needs to be grabbed instantaneously by persuasive graphic and text that are presented or the user's audience will stop visiting the sight.
