Facebook Theme
Facebook's design theme is community and entertainment. Because Facebook is a social networking site it relies heavily on creating a sense of community. Networks are the main example of the community characteristic within this site. I belong to the Clayton State network. I am able to be free and roam users profiles in my community, without necessarily being someone's friend. On the other hand, once I navigate outside of my designated community or network I am no longer able to access user's profiles unless I am friends with them first. A community is essentially a group of people who share an environment, and unless you are apart of a designated network then you are restricted.
The Web Style Guide states that when it comes to an entertainment site it "usually caters to an audience whose interest and motivations are usually much less focused." This applies to Facebook because its users are able to navigate to where they please without restrictions. Within this website there are hundreds of entertaining applications that can be downloaded for entertainment purposes. "The Bathroom Wall" is a Facebook entertainment application, where users post and read others anonymous comments that are designed to be embarrassing.
