Theme in Davidjosue.com
Curtis discusses "theme" as the message of a project that is being communicated to its audience (41-47). Davidjosue.com definitely has a theme of professionalism and post-modernity. Since this is an online portfolio for photography, davidjosue.com looks very simple with the focus on the graphics. Further, much of Josué's photography is post-modern with use of angles, shapes, and colors that offer an abstract reality (see the photo in figure 6). However, some of his work does show clean lines and bright colors associated with modernity. Overall, the Web site has a post-modern feel with the gray outline around the boxes that do not have sharp corners and the gray text that is a bit blurry (see figure 7).

According to the Web Style Guide, the "two fundamental variables [for the theme of a site] are the linearity of the structure of your presentation and the length of the typical user's contact time" (Site design themes). First, this site has a somewhat linear structure. The user can go to any section and click on any gallery in that section; then, he/she can click on any photo in that gallery. Still, to see a picture from another gallery, the user must first go to that gallery. Additionally, there are no hyperlinks to outside sources; everything is on the site's Flash Player. Second, as discussed in the section of Audience, Josué's audience will spend a great deal of time on this site looking through the photos.
